The following rules apply for the Animal Taming skill: |
- Primarily, Animal Taming is the skill used for taming animals and tamable
monsters.
- Each creature has an "invisible" taming difficulty, calculated as
invisible taming difficulty = minimum skill to tame * 10 + 249.
The formula for determining success is:
(100 * (skill * 10 - difficulty) / 50 + 500) / 10.
- It accounts for 80% of your chance to control a pet (Animal Lore accounts
for 20%).
- Not all animals and monsters are tamable.
- Taming is a difficulty-based skill, this means you have to tame things of
increasing difficulty to keep gaining.
- Once you have tamed a creature, it's taming difficulty is reset to 0.0 for
you and you will always be able to retame it on first try. You can not gain
skill from an animal you have previously tamed, but you can gain skill from
other people's tames.
- Tamed creatures suffer a skill loss of 10%, 14% if paralyzation spells were
used in the process. Skill loss occurs only when a creature is tamed for the
first time.
- The professional title for Animal Taming is Tamer.
