The Website
This Website is dedicated to the profession of the Animal Tamer in Ultima
Online (official website at http://www.uo.com).
It started out as a simple thing which had little more than guild information
on it. At some point I started adding taming information, since a lot of
guildmembers kept asking me about various things, and the Stratics information
was rather outdated at that point.
End of February 2000 Stratics added their Professions Forums, and from day
one I was an avid poster on the Tamer Forum, with the goal of helping my fellow
Tamers and provide better, more up to date information than the Tamer Essay.
Ever since then the people of this forum have inspired me to add more details
to the PRC website for the benefit of Tamers on all shards.
On June 2nd 2000 I became a Moderator for this board, since a lot of flames,
trolls and personal attacks threatened to destroy the community of a place that
quickly became a "home" outside of the game for a lot of people from
different shards.
By the end of September I offered to update the taming requirements by skill
and the Tamer Essay, which were completed about two weeks later. Today I am
still keeping the Stratics material updated, am constantly seeking to publish
new skill related material and to answer all the questions I see from aspiring
Tamers, be it on the Stratics Tamer Forum or on the PRC Boards. On October 4th, 2002 the our website is granted official fansite status. On February 28th 2003 PRC publishes it's first official interview with Designer Oaks. (The interview is archived here.)
The Pacific Rangers Council
Our guild was founded end of December 1999 with a handful of tamers of all
levels. Sir Lynxx was the first to join me in the endeavor of founding a
tamer-only guild on our shard. PRC grew to be a fairly large guild and by June
2000 we reached the incredible number of 50 members.
Unfortunately, the larger our guild got, the more people were in it just for
the name. The average guildmeeting saw about 10 to 15 members, mostly the same
people every week. The rest of our "members" hardly ever showed up to
meetings or events and I started getting complaints about certain folks from
various other guilds. This was not what we intended to be!
So at one point I decided to wipe the guildstone completely and invited
every person with a serious interest in the guild to join again if the new
rules were acceptable to them. The result is a smaller guild with very
dedicated members.
Mordanna the Tamer
Mordanna started her Taming career on April 7th, 1999 in Yew, with 0 skill
in taming and little knowledge about the game mechanics. All she wanted to be
was and still is a Tamer, but at this time she didn't know much about the
profession. She spent long hours out in the woods around Yew, Britain and
Delucia, just taming whatever animal she could attempt, regardless of
difficulty. Tamers were a rare breed at this time and she had nothing but the
Stratics Taming Essay to refer to for information.
On October 1st, 1999 she tames her first dragon. Around November 2nd,
Mordanna hit a "Brick Wall" with a loud *thump*. Skill gains stop
completely for approximately 3 weeks. Even her daily hours of taming
practise won't bring any gains anymore at all. Yet she doesn't give up and
keeps on taming for hours every single day: Giant Toads, Lava Lizards,
Hellhounds. Paging a GM and sending an email to OSI, she hears the
implementation of Skill Management will help her to gain again. The advice
proves to be true when skill locks are finally active: setting all her skills
except taming to down gets her "unstuck" and gains keep creeping up
slowly again. On December 17th 1999, Mordanna gains her final 0.2, both off
Giant Toads, in a time span of 15 minutes.
After several template changes, I am now in the progress of redesigning her
skill set once again, this time including skills above Grandmaster level
through the use of power scrolls.
