Pet Handling: Commands

The higher your skills in Taming and Lore, the better your chance of succeeding a command. Please keep in mind, a control percentage of e.g. 60% , does not mean you will succeed 6 out of 10 commands. Every single command you give performs a skill check, failed commands decreasing your chance of success every time since they lower loyalty.

Your success in commanding a pet depends on your Taming and Animal Lore skill and the pet's orneriness and loyalty. (See "Loyalty Vs. Orneriness") The only exception are pets with the taming skill requirement of 29.1 and below: anyone will be able to successfully command such a pet. You have to make sure you only use the key words in a command. It is no longer possible to use complete sentences and/or punctuation. ("Ben kill" will work, while "Ben kill!" or "Ben kill this creature please" will not work. Some commands work either with the petname ("Swifty follow [target]") or as global commands ("All follow me").

If you see players commanding their pets with unusual commands which seem to work, they are using a neat little trick. You can set up macros using the "whisper" option to issue valid commands (which will be visible only to players in your immediate vicinity but can be heard by your pets just the same as if spoken out loud). Use a two-line macro with your command of choice emoted or spoken in the first line and the actual, valid command whispered in the second line.

Basic commands
follow
difficulty: low
  • [petname] follow me - will cause the addressed pet to follow you
  • [petname] follow [target] - will cause the addressed pet to follow the target
("all follow [target] does not work!)
  • all follow me - will cause all the pets currently under your control to follow you
come
difficulty: medium
  • [petname] come - will cause the addressed pet to move to your location
  • all come - will cause all the pets currently under your control to move to your location.

This command is especially useful for pets with spellcasting ability, since it will cause "stuck" pets to teleport to your location.

stay
difficulty: medium
  • [petname] stay - will cause the addressed pet to stay where it is
  • all stay - will cause all the pets currently under your control to stay where they are
stop
difficulty: high
  • [petname] stop - will cause the addressed pet to stop attacking, following, guarding or staying
  • all stop - will cause all the pets currently under your control to stop attacking, following, guarding or staying.
drop
difficulty: low
  • [petname] drop - will cause the addressed [bonded] pet to drop it's loot if it carries any, does not work for [tame] pets
Ownership-related commands
friend
difficulty: very high
  • [petname] friend [target] - will make the target a friend of the addressed pet, if the skill check succeeds. If the target's taming and animal lore is too low, you will get the message: "Your pet doesn't seem interested in making new friends right now".

This command performs a skill check on both friending and friended player and will only succeed if both skill checks are successful.

Important: once you friended a person to a pet, the friend will be able to confirm the resurrection of said pet and issue movement commands, but can not claim it from the stable or stable it.

transfer
difficulty: very high
  • [petname] transfer [target] - will permanently transfer ownership of the addressed pet to the target. The minimum transfer requirement is 20% control ability (use the Control Calculator to determine possible skill combinations).

This command performs a skill check on the receiving player and adds the new master to the "owners list" in order to be able to retame at 0 difficulty.

release
difficulty: none
  • [petname] release - will release the addressed pet back into a feral state

Important: If you release a pet ghost, it will disappear with no chance of recovery!

Combat-related commands
kill/attack
difficulty: high
  • [petname] kill/attack - will cause the addressed pet to attack the target
  • all kill/attack - will cause all the pets currently under your control to attack the target

Important: this command triggers the controller flag! If you issue this command you are fully responsible for your pet's actions and can get a murder count if you are attacking a blue player.

guard
difficulty: high
  • [petname] guard me - will cause the addressed pet to guard you
  • all guard me - will cause all the pets currently under your control to guard you

Important: this command triggers the controller flag! If you issue this command you are fully responsible for your pet's actions and can get a murder count if you are attacking a blue player.

With the implementation of publish 16 pets can only guard their owner.
patrol This command still exists in the code but can not be executed anymore since pets can only guard their owner.
